Philosophers influences graph

A demonstrative app showing how interesting knowledge visualizations can be grounded on text via semantci annotation.

How it works

Edgemaps are a nice way of graphing knowledge and the edgmaps philosphers demo by Marian Dörk ciculated in humanities dev MLs and attracted our interest.

It basically maps the influences among philospahers from freebase.com and builds a interactive graph explorer. A scholars would immediately ask: "who sayd Locke influenced Kant?" and "Where is the eveidence of that in the primary sources?".

This demo is an attempt to demonstrare how scholars could build (and share) a personal knowledge graph (in this case a citations and influences ) by semantically annotating online texts (e.g .from WikiSource.org).

Political rhetoric vs. STOXX 600

A demonstrative app from the Data Journalism Hack @ OKFest

Try it now!

How it works

This application shows declarations of politicians (or other "influential persons") in a timeline together with the Euro STOXX 600 index, which represents large, mid and small capitalisation companies across 18 countries of the European region. The idea is that of giving clues of possible correlations between what influential persons say and how the European financial situation changes (and vice-versa!).

The interesting thing is that politicians declarations shown in the app are created by users (e.g. journalists) by annotating online news papers with Pundit and fetched ont the fly usign the Pundit REST API.
